Prototype Two |
| Work proceeded on turning the Coupe into a
finished product and a real GT machine. The development team - Anton
Richardson, Geoff Blandford, Morne Harris, Arno Taljaard, Andre Strydom,
Roche du Toit and Nico Alberts and his pattern makers constructed a second
prototype to develop, fit, integrate, and test the components of the final
car.
The changes from Prototype One were significant. Subtle but significant changes to the body shape, replacement of the sliding Plexiglas side windows with beautifully curved roll-up tinted windows of tempered glass, the addition of air conditioning as standard, and a complete rework of the interior to upgrade it from race car stark to true GT specs. Additional changes continued to be made as additional testing indicated the need. When the body shape was finalized, a final body plug was built and the production body molds were fabricated. As the individual component designs were completed, the manufacturing tooling and jigs were designed and put in place in the factory. Prototype Two started out as a driving test vehicle. However, as design work progressed, it became necessary to “deconstruct” it to test fit construction details. In the end Prototype Two was no longer drivable. |
Prototype Two, now retired from active testing, is being used for engineering change evaluation.
Doug Reed inspects the final body plug. From this plug come the production body molds for the Coupe. |
| Prototype Three was constructed as an additional driving test vehicle. Changes were first worked out and finalized on Prototype Two, then fitted to Prototype Three for road testing. |
